Comprehensive Exam
A comprehensive examination is required for all students seeking the Online Master of Education in Physical Education degree. Students need to complete a Master of Education Comprehensive Examination application, sign it, and submit to their faculty advisor for approval. The comprehensive examination is comprised of 4 course/content areas. These four questions are derived from the materials covered in their coursework. The content areas/courses in which the student will be tested are decided in consultation with their faculty advisor. Upon approval by the student's faculty advisor, the application will be forwarded to the College of Education for formal approval. An official letter of approval to take the examination from the department committee chair will provide details for the student of testing location and other pertinent examination information.
The comprehensive examination may be taken at any time after 18 hours of required coursework is completed and if the coursework is completed in the areas in which the student will be tested. The Master Degree Plan application must also be completed before the student applies for the Master Comprehensive exam.
Continuous Enrollment:
A student must be enrolled in coursework during the semester in which the examination is to be taken. If the student has completed all of their degree coursework and take the examination during a semester after all the coursework have been completed, the student needs to complete a petition, approved by their faculty advisor, permitting them to take the examination during a semester in which they would not take any coursework.
Testing Center Location:
The student applying to take the examination must provide a computer-based testing center (with pertinent contact information) to their faculty advisor. This testing center must provide for a proctor. There may be a fee involved in taking the examination at this testing center via computer. The fee may, in some cases, be minimal and paid directly to the testing center. Once a testing center has been identified, the center will be approved by the HHP department and Distance Education office and the student will be notified of the location and testing date. Typically the testing date is provided on the main HHP website; however, the date is subject to change due to difficulties finding testing centers. The exam must be proctored. There is no other alternative for this examination other than to come to UH to take the exam.
