Undergraduate Scholarships at HHP

The Department of Health and Human Performance has several annual scholarships available to students within our department.  All scholarships require a minimum 2.5 GPA and the completion of an application form.  Some scholarships have additional application requirements. 

In addition the department also gives awards for outstanding undergraduate students in the areas of Exercise Science, Nutrition, Fitness and sports (undergraduate) and Sports Administration (undergraduate). These students are nominated by faculty in their respective areas.

Application Deadline: April 9th 2012

Application Process: for all scholarships, complete the Undergraduate Scholarship Application (doc) form and submit it at the HHP front desk in Rm 104 Garrison.

 

Margie Sterr Scholarship

The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Houston will be providing a scholarship for an undergraduate student who has demonstrated interest and aptitude in the area of Motor Behavior. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage high quality student participation in the exercise science program in preparation for either graduate school and/or a career in exercise science. The scholarship recipient will receive the opportunity to participate in scientific research in the Center for Neuromotor and Biomechanics Research at UH.

This opportunity will enable the student to gain "hands on" experience with project conception, data collection and analysis, and public presentation of scientific results.

Scholarship candidates will be required to submit an application that will include a one page written statement detailing the student's interest in motor behavior and future career plans.  The recipient must also commit to work 5-7 hours per week in the Center for Neuromotor and Biomechanics Research .

 

Mary Louise White Scholarship

The Mary Louise White Scholarship is available to full-time students pursing a degree of study in Health and Human Performance or studying Special Education with an emphasis on mental retardation. To apply for the scholarship, please fill out a Scholarship application and include all the required materials as listed below. Notification of awards will be sent by mail. Nominations should be presented annually by the Department of Health and Human Performance.


Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicant's academic performance (minimum GPA of 2.5).

  2. Applicant demonstrates financial need (as indicated on their Tax Return Form).

  3. Applicant must be making satisfactory progress toward completion of their degree for which they are working.

  4. Progress and good standing must be maintained within the department and degree for which they are working.

  5. Applicant must have at least one full semester remaining at the time of application.

 The award is for approximately $2000.00.
