The Application Process

Admission requirements for the dietetic internship only standalone option include:

  • An earned verification statement from an ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) or declaration of intent if DPD coursework is in process.

  • Work experience is preferred and does not need to be in the field of nutrition and dietetics.

  • Academic coursework work must be recent (MNT courses must be within five years of applying) and of high quality. The program gives preference to candidates with DPD professional GPA of 3.4 and higher, DPD science GPA of 2.8 and higher, and overall GPA of 3.0 and higher.

Applying for the Dietetic internship is a 3 step process:

Complete an online application with DICAS:

The UHDI participates in the Dietetics Inclusive Centralized Application System (DICAS). The program may be accessed at https://dicas.liaisoncas.com/. DICAS charges a $50 fee for the first application submitted and $25 for each additional application.

DICAS requires a personal statement, online application, official transcripts and 3 letters of recommendation. In addition we require you to upload the following to DICAS:

  • Current resume (Please include your email address)

See completing the application for more information on these.

Mail in additional materials to UH

UH requires students to mail in your application fees along with the application checklist.

Register with D&D

You must also register with D&D Digital Systems in order to participate in what is termed the nationwide “matching process” used by most internships. The deadline for submitting your internship preferences in rank order (whether you have one choice or twenty) is the same as the deadline for submitting the applications to the schools or programs of your choice as mentioned above. Applicants can obtain the computer matching materials from a Didactic Program Director or from D&D Digital Systems, 304 Main St. Ste. 301, Ames, IA 50010, Phone (515) 292-0490, Fax (515) 663-9427. There is currently a $65 charge for the computer matching process, payable to D&D Digital, although this cost is subject to change. Click here to go to the section on the ACEND website for details on Computer Matching Policy and Procedures.

The D&D digital matching number for the University of Houston – onsite track program are: Fall match 520 for the DI standalone option and 638 for the MS/DI option; Spring 477 for the DI standalone and 1008 for the MS/DI option.

The deadline for application submissions is determined by D&D Digital Systems and is usually in February and September of each year. Refer to your Didactic Program Director for the actual dates.

To be considered for admission, all application materials must be submitted online and the application fee with checklist mailed in by the due dates in either February or September. You may send the application fee with checklist by regular mail. If you wish to get acknowledgement you should use a carrier that provides tracking ie: UPS, overnight mail, DHS, FedEx etc. We do not recommend the use of certified mail.

The checklist and application fee should be submitted in person or via mail to:
