The Distance Track Application Process

Admission requirements at UH include a Bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university and an original verification statement from an ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics) accredited DPD program as well as a graduate degree. A graduate degree includes a master’s degree, practice doctorate, doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD or, DSc). Students who have not yet graduated can have their DPD Director submit a declaration of intent.

The program gives preference to candidates with DPD GPA of 3.4 or above and full-time work experience. The strength of the proposed rotation sites and preceptors is also an important component of the application selection process. Sites for MNT should offer opportunities for advanced and critical care. Preceptors should be appropriately credentialed and have a year or more of experience. Sites may be used for more than one rotation.

Applying for the Dietetic internship is a 3 step process:

Complete an online application with DICAS:

The University of Houston participates in the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application System (DICAS). The program may be accessed at https://dicas.liaisoncas.com/ (e-mail DICASinfo@DICAS.org) The fee to use DICAS is $55 for the first application submitted and $25 for each additional application.

DICAS requires a personal statement, online application, official transcripts and 3 letters of recommendation. In addition, UHDI requires applicants upload the following to DICAS.

  • Current resume (Please include your email address)
  • Preceptor qualification forms, preceptor agreement forms, and a rotation schedule.

See completing the application for more information on these.

Mail in Fees and Checklist to UH

UH requires students to mail in your $50 application fees along with the application checklist.

Register with D&D

You must also register with D&D Digital Systems in order to participate in what is termed the nationwide “matching process” used by most internships. The deadline for submitting your internship preferences in rank order (whether you have one choice or twenty) is the same as the deadline for submitting the applications to the schools or programs of your choice as mentioned above. Applicants can obtain the computer matching materials from a Didactic Program Director or from D&D Digital Systems, 304 Main St. Ste. 301, Ames, IA 50010, Phone (515) 292-0490, Fax (515) 663-9427. There is currently a $65 charge for the computer matching process, payable to D&D Digital, although this cost is subject to change. Click here to go to the section on the ACEND website for details on Computer Matching Policy and Procedures.

The D&D digital matching numbers for the University of Houston - distance track program are: Fall match 574 for the DI standalone option and 639 for the MS/DI option; Spring 141 for the DI standalone and 1009 for the MS/DI option.

The deadline for application submissions is determined by D&D Digital Systems. Refer to your Didactic Program Director for the actual dates.

To be considered for admission, all application materials must be submitted online and UH items mailed in by the due date. You may send UH required documents by regular mail. If you wish to get acknowledgement of your application you should use a carrier that provides tracking ie: UPS, overnight mail, DHS, Fedex etc. We do not recommend the use of certified mail.

The checklist and check should be submitted in person or via mail to:
